Polycrystalline water (H₂O) ice condensed at 251.15 K (-22 °C) between two quartz (SiO₂) substrates (for measurements in the 1.4-2.7 µm region) and between two calcium fluoride (CaF₂) substrates (for measurements near 3.1 µm and in the 3.35-7.81 µm region), and held at 251.15 K during spectroscopic measurements.
The imaginary part (k) of the complex index of refraction was determined using optical measurements done at a temperature of 251.15 K, by infrared transmission spectroscopy from 6980 to 1280 cm⁻¹ with resolutions of 16 and 32 cm⁻¹.
