Polycrystalline water (H₂O) ice block consisted of vertically-oriented crystals was produced at 243 K (-30°C), and held at a temperature below the water freezing point during spectroscopic measurements.
The imaginary part (k) of the complex index of refraction was determined using optical measurements done at a temperature below the water freezing point (<273 K), by ultraviolet spectroscopy from 250 to 400 nm.
