Crystalline hydrogen cyanide (HCN) ice deposited at a temperature between 50 and 100 K onto thallium bromoiodide (KRS-5) and polyethylene (PE) substrates, then annealed at 120 K and cooled down to 35 K, and held at 35 K during spectroscopic measurements.
The real (n) and imaginary (k) parts of the complex index of refraction were determined using optical measurements done at a temperature of 35 K and a pressure in the range of ~10⁻⁷ Torr, by infrared transmission spectroscopy from 270 to 120 cm⁻¹ with a resolution of 1 cm⁻¹ in the mid-infrared region and 4 cm⁻¹ in the far-infrared region.
