Electronically excited state argon (Ar) ice deposited at 4.2 K onto a gold (Au) substrate after passing through a microwave discharge, and held at 4.2 K during spectroscopic measurements.
The real part (n) of the complex index of refraction was determined using optical measurements done at a temperature of 4.2 K and a pressure < 5E-5 mm Hg, by ellipsometry at 5461 Å.
